Before the city of Aswan was there, Elephantine Island was the site of a pharaonic era trading town called Swenet that used the island and the turbulent waters of the First Cataract as protection from attack.

It's too expensive (almost USD 50) for a tour to a place tha has little to offer. If you want to have a good experience go to Philae (Agilika Island) to visit the Temple of Isis.
Just skip Elephantine Island and save your money and your time.

Iman was a fantastic guide - really friendly and personable. It was wonderful to see the island - so peaceful. The sites were really interesting and with the guide became alive in their description.
