This itinerary traces the life of ancient Rome inside an extraordinary imperial villa. The Villa is a UNESCO heritage site and houses 3500 square meters of mosaic floors.

The Villa Romana del Casale is an elaborate Roman Palace with the most amazing and varied collection of mosaics that are unique in their condition as they were preserved by landslides and floods. Frescoes cover both interior and exterior walls as well as floors.
Various Homeric epics and biblical scenes are displayed such as gathering of animals prior to boarding Noah's ark. Even sexual activity is not tabu. However, the most outstanding mosaic was that containing women in bikinis. This piece of artwork may be the earliest record of the bikini for women shown here participating in various sports activities. This is many Millenia prior to Title IX.
The Villa Romana del Casale is a "MUST VISIT!" Add this to your bucket list.

We have engaged dozens of guides to local history annd culture over the years and it can be a hit or miss affair. (Last week in Syracuse, a local historian kept referring to Greek temples built in 6,000 BC. He meant 600 - and he was overall a great guide!).
Michele is really next level. He is an outstanding guide to Agrigento’s Valley of the Temples. He goes very deep on the history, knows his histories, cultures, literatures, thinkers, architecture that conquered and built or neglected this amazing place. He loves this corner of Sicily and after two hours with him, so will you. He was flexible when our schedule changed, answered a wide range of questions with the right level of detail, spoke excellent English, and kept his answers succinct (another rarity in Italy).
Michelin says one star is worth a stop, two a detour, and three a journey, Michele is one of the few three star guides I’ve met. Highest recommendation.

Seeing these mosaics, with our wonderful, warm, well-informed guide, Guisy, was absolutely thrilling. We went at 9 am and no one was there yet (an hour later and it was so crowded!!). Really a breathtaking experience!

Filippa our guide had such detailed knowledge of the site; she really brought it to life for us. We were able to appreciate details that we wouldn’t have noticed on our own. Filippa was very warm and welcoming - it was like being shown around by a member of the family. I would really recommend this tour.

Beautiful site. The reconstruction of the villa allows us to fully understand its structure. The external walls clash

Filippa was an outstanding guide. Excellent and friendly communication from the start and added huge value to the tout, with great and surprising details, humour and warmth. We saw many things we would never have seen without her. I had wondered about having a guide but I would hugely recommend the added value to get even more out of the experience. Her family can do tours in multiple languages. Would strongly recommend.

excellent guide, very well-versed in the history of the Villa Romana. In addition to providing a extensive overview of the entire grounds, she was able to answer a large host of questions in great detail. Her English is excellent and personality is warm, inviting and professional, I would highly recommend her.

Filippa made the Villa del Casale in Piazza Armerina come alive with her knowledge and enthusiasm. She is a wonderful guide, full of interesting facts and tidbits of information. The Villa is so remarkable on its own but Filippa really made sure that we experienced it as the ancients might have. I highly recommend her as a guide at this truly amazing cultural treasure.
