After having completed the first installment of Sherlock's escape room, we decided to visit again (albeit many years later!) to complete the new Mind of Moriarty experience. With the levels of expectations raised from the first visit, unfortunately this version fell short of the standards previously set.
What made Sherlock fun was the fact that we felt as if we were in Sherlock's shoes, trying to solve a case and stop the fiend that is Moriarty. However, this time we felt as if we were simply just dropped into the scenario of needing to go through Moriarty's mind for AI purposes. It didn't seem very much like an episode of the TV series.
What was disappointing were the puzzles themselves, which lacked creativity and seemed a little bit like anyone could do it without needing to think. While the first 2 rooms did require mental strategy, the need to be physical with the lasers was a tad boring. The third room was not so much a puzzle, more a bunch of buttons and switches being the only way to 'stop' Moriarty. It suddenly went from needing to be clever to solve problems to just stand near a button and hit it repeatedly.
I think overall, the game was good but due to us having played before, this didn't seem as fun or mentally challenging. Sure, we didn't find it easy in the slightest but it wasn't so much our brains that needed to work, especially at the end.
If the story was more captivating and the scene was set a little better from the beginning, it may be an overall better experience.
