Discover Tokyo's hidden gem, Yanaka, and experience its old-world charm. This quaint district boasts traditional wooden houses that survived WWII, now transformed into cozy cafes and bars. Visit the stunning Nezu Shrine with its iconic red torii gates, intricate golden sculptures, and serene Japanese garden, where azaleas bloom vibrantly in spring. Stroll through the residential backstreets, explore a vast cemetery, and enjoy local flavors at Yanaka Ginza shopping street, packed with traditional Japanese snacks and sweets. Yanaka offers a unique blend of history, tranquility, and traditional Tokyo life, making it a perfect escape from the bustling city and a chance to see the quieter, more picturesque side of Japanese culture.

The tour guide filled the tour with lessons of typical Japanese life. Her favorite narrow street and stories about camp and being scared by spirits in graveyards. The tour was exceptional and the the walking was great exercise to work off some of the food. I would definitely recommend this tour. It was really fun and exciting.

Mei did a great job of bringing out the history of Yanaka. We hit a lot of spots that would have been easy to overlook, and her knowledge of both past and present culture added a lot to the experience. In addition to the sightseeing, we visited some historic shops that would have been easy to miss. Even though it rained heavily, we covered a lot of ground, and I had no trouble following along with what Mei had to tell us.

I would highly recommend this tour to anyone who would like to get off the beaten path in the city of Tokyo. Touring with a local is always special, and this tour was exceptional! Our tour guide knew people in local shops, and everyone greeted her with a smile and warmth which extended to us since we were with her.

Despite the humidity, we had a very enjoyable time strolling around the historical sights. Many thanks to Wakana our guide, who provided a wealth of commentary and answered all our questions with aplomb.

Miyu was a very nice guide and did have good information however the tour content was disappointing. We were expecting a whole area of old style Japanese houses, instead we saw about 5 scattered among modern Japanese homes. We did like the stops at the Buddhist and Shinto temples but a 30 minute stop at a modern cafe is not what we wanted. I would not recommend this tour.

Mei was delightful, friendly, relaxed and informative as our guide. A very good walk around this historical and more local area, with interesting insights into history, the people and culture. Handy tips, too, on where to eat and drink in the area.
