The North of Portugal is green, but it is also history, tradition and modernity. Minho is the river that borders the north of the country, but also the land of a wine that only has a green name and that remains in the memory of those who drink it.
To discover this region is to get involved in Guimarães - a World Heritage city since 2001 - with its symbolic castle and cradle of Portugal, it is to walk its streets and feel the history. It is visiting Braga with its Cathedral, feeling that the Romans also passed through there and being part of a modern city. It means going up to the Church of Bom Jesus and allowing yourself to be spiritually involved in its chapels and gardens.
Minho is to feel the landscape, the history, the culture, the tradition and the Portuguese being.

We spent
a day with Ricardo, a very knowledgeable guide.
Ricardo is a very courteous, affable person, attentive to the needs of his guests.
He picked us up at the hotel, with a comfortable, clean car, with a bottle of water for each of us.
Excellent vehicle handling. Be careful to propose breaks for breaks and need to go to the services. Explains the characteristics of places in a precise and engaging way.
:
We visited in Guimaraes:
Paco Duques
Castelo
Praça Oliveira
Praça Toural
and in Braga:
Bom Jesus Monte
Cathedral

Ricardo was a wonderful guide for today's fascinating tour. He arrived on time in a high end vehicle and with plenty of cold water for a hot summer day. He is loaded with facts about Portugal's history and the history of the two cities we visited. He was respectful of my pace, attentive, thoughtful, and just a pleasure to spend the day with. We plussed up our experience with a traditional Portuguese lunch, for which he made an excellent recommendation. If I return to Porto he will be the first person I'll call for more city and surrounding area explorations. Highly recommended!

Our visit to the historical sites in Braga, with its many churches and peculiar character, and Guimaraes, the literal birthplace of this fascinating country was filled with interesting stories, great food and delightful company.
