On this food tour in Mexico City, we’ll be exploring the district’s deep tracks – with an emphasis on the out-of-the-way food spots. We’ll start the day off by visiting two neighborhood breakfast institutions. As we work our way through the bustling Centro’s cobblestoned streets, we’ll also stop by several beloved food stands, from one serving the area’s best carnitas to another that sells escamocho, a tropical fruit cocktail like no other. We’ll duck into a side alley for homey enchiladas at a workers’ lunch spot and explore the edible offerings at a 1930s-era covered market that is also home to a stunning display of public art. There will be a stop for a bite and a drink with the regulars at a neighborhood cantina that remains unchanged from when it first opened 100 years ago and then, to end the day, a sit down at another classic cantina for a meal of botanas, hearty home-style dishes that redefine upwards the concept of “bar snacks.”

Ignacio’s story-telling was key to our day. The food was the best I’d ever had. We learned so much about Mexico City and have returned to some of the restaurants we were introduced to. Taking a food tour like this on the first day of arrival orients you to the city and to food that you will want to try again.

Possibly the best Culinary Backstreets tour we have experienced. Our guide Ana was knowledgeable, energetic and full of passion for her city. We tasted great food, learned about the history of the city and saw some wonderful murals we did not expect to see. If you choose no other day tour in the city, do this one.

Our tour guide, Ana, was very knowledgeable and great! We went to different parts of the city that we would not have explored on our own. We had a lot of great food and drinks. It was great to learn more about the food and culture of Mexico City. I highly recommend this tour!

When I signed up for the Centro Historico tour, I expected to eat a lot of delicious food in a beautiful neighborhood in Mexico City. What we experienced was much more than that. Nacho was an incredibly knowledgable tour guide that shared history of Mexico, the city, the people, and of course the food. I highly recommend this tour to first time visitors and frequent visitors that want to expand their understanding of the culture.

Liz took us on a complete tour of centro historico. She not only covered a wide range of food styles and options but also provided a historical and social perspective which was both informative and entertaining. Liz is passionate about street food and her enthusiasm is contagious. A great day out.

We had a wonderful day with our guide, Liz. She gave us so much history about the area we were in and all the food we tasted was delicious. This was our 2nd food tour with BSC and we will be doing more as we travel to different cities.

We had a total blast on this food tour. Liz, our guide, is a marvel of local insight and appreciation, food fondness, art history expert and most of all, a whole lot of fun to hang out with. She took us on a dizzying tour of incredible food. Dishes at tiny “locals only” places we would never have tried without her. She also took us to see fabulous buildings and hidden art gems. In fact, by the time we were done, I swear I was “high”. High on life! On an unbelievable experience! High, as in so incredibly happy I got to do this food tour, see this stunning architecture and art and wow! If you’re heading to MDX and eat food, this tour can not be beat!
