Beginning with a selection of specialties in a timeless neighborhood Lokanta, we’ll visit a pickle-maker and other artisans. Winding our way through the district’s atmospheric side streets, there will be specialties from across the country, ranging from the far Northeast to the Black

Sea to the distinct cuisine of Hatay in the Southeast. We’ll visit a hidden Armenian church inside a bustling fish market between samplings at street vendors fishmongers and grill joints and, finally, we’ll treat ourselves to the best Turkish coffee in the city.

Depending on the day and what the walk comes across, there will be several other culinary surprises along the way of this food tour in Istanbul, all of them telling the fascinating tale of what is perhaps the city’s most iconic neighborhood.

My husband and I took a fantastic Hidden Beyoglu culinary tour in Istanbul with Katerina of Culinary Backstreets. Katerina took us to a wide variety of restaurants and food shops, including a pickle shop, pudding shop, vegetarian and non-vegetarian restaurants. We sampled delicious meze, entrees, drinks and pastry. We were stuffed by the end of the tour!
Katerina was wonderful. Her English is outstanding and she is very easy to understand. She gave us background about the places she chose to take us, all of which served delicious food; introduced us to the proprietors and described what we were eating. We highly recommend this tour. You'll be in great hands if Katerina is your guide!

If you are foodies and have a free evening in Istanbul, then I would highly recommend the Hidden Beyoglu food tour. Our wonderful guide Esin, gave us an excellent overview of the history of her neighborhood and took us to some really exceptional food stops. She really knows her food and the neighborhood’s history. My wife and I had a wonderful time. Esin even helped us get a taxi back to the Europe side of the city where our hotel was.

My guide was incredibly knowledgeable of the area and its history. She shared with us information about the regions of Turkey, and which foods came from where.

What a fabulous food tour. We selected this tour following a recommendation from a friend and we opted to do an early evening tour in the hope it would be a little cooler. Our guide for the evening was Dilek who was incredibly knowledgeable about both the food and the history of the city. I doubt we would have found the area ( Cihangir) where the main tour started - we loved it so much we went back the following day ! The food selected was great and it’s difficult to say what our favourites were. Such a great way to see the city

We love food and we had a great experience! We generally prefer meat heavy tours and this was very vegetarian friendly, we loved every dish we were served. Glad we ventured out and would definitely do it again! The food speaks a lot about Turkish history and it's been a beautiful way to explore Istanbul. Esin was the perfect food guide, we definitely recommend and tour with her again! We wish her the very best.

Culinary Backstreets proves once again that their guides just do a better job than the competition! Yes, these tours are often more expensive but worth it! They have all been so much more fun, educational and delicious.

Husband and I took the tour during our 2-day stay in Istanbul, which was courtesy of Turkish Air. (note: that was great!) We had spent 3 weeks in Istanbul a couple of years ago and we eager to return -- especially to eat! We love all manner of Turkish food and this tour was the perfect solution and it fit our schedule.

The food tour experience was incredible. Esin, our tour guide was so knowledgable and friendly and took us to so many hidden gems where we tried unbelievably good food. The restaurants and bars we went to we definitely wouldn’t have tried had it not been for the food tour, and they were all fantastic. This food tour was the highlight of our four night stay in Istanbul, and we strongly recommend doing it. Beyoglu is a really interesting neighbourhood and exploring it with a local is the best way to do it.
