Mexico City Street Food: A Beginner’s Guide takes you into the heart of the Cuauhtémoc neighborhood, home to Mexico City’s stock exchange and its various foreign embassies. With so many hungry office workers—and dozens of outdoor stands to feed them—it’s a perfect place to explore the city’s vibrant street food scene. Besides eating, you’ll meet the vendors and learn their stories, and uncover rich facts about Mexican food and culture from your expert guide.

Our stops can vary depending on the day, but some highlights on this tour include: Tlacoyos, Squash-Flower Burritos, Tacos de Carnitas and Cemitas. Plus several more items!

Clara met us for a guided tour of the food markets and street food in Mexico City. This was our first full day in Mexico and it was so helpful to have someone passionate and so knowledgeable to explain to us the origins of different Mexican food types, the related regional cultural backgrounds to try them out. Clara knew the best of the street food options and purveyors and we steadily ate our way around the city centre trying shellfish tacos (our favourite) , tostas (with turkey) , tostados, pulque (a drink made from agave plant) and many other things. If you enjoy food and want to eat Mexican food, this is a must to acquaint yourself with the different styles of eating and what to eat - helping us up to know what we liked and what to buy by ourselves. Clara is an expert in this field and we so enjoyed our time with her. I highly recommend booking a tour or other food options with Eat Mexico

With a professional culinary background, our guide, Toti, was both knowledgeable and eager to help us appreciate the many flavor traditions we were sampling. We had a wonderful time seeing the city with her, and getting to know little places we never would not have seen otherwise. We left confident about how to enjoy the amazing offerings seemingly on every street. Thanks to Tori regularly checking in with us about how hungry we were, what flavors we liked, etc., we were delightfully satisfied at the end of our tour. Toti is a patient, enthusiastic guide with excellent English -- highly recommend!

Our guide, Nico, was super nice and knowledgeable. We were a group of four and Nico first asked if any of us had any food allergies so he could curtail our tour which we appreciated👍. With prior experience in the food industry, Nico provided us with a history of the foods we were to try along with the best spots in the area. The tour lasted about two hours and we all enjoyed it! Thanks Nico 🙏🏼

Nico, our guide, was amazing! He took us to meet with street food vendors only a local would know about for extremely delicious culinary treats. The tour is well paced, exceptionally fun and tasty, and one of the most memorable experiences of my stay in Mexico City. Highly recommend as a must do, uniquely satisfying outing!

My friends and I were lucky enough to have Nico be our guide to Mexican street food in Mexico City. We walked around Mexico City for 3 hours and ate our heart's desire. Nico was extremely knowledgeable of all the different types of food that we tasted as well as general Mexican and Mexico City history, truly a fantastic tour guide. Highly recommend!!!!!

Clara was a fantastic guide! I felt like I was walking the city with a longtime friend. Her culinary background added to the thoughtful experience. She explained everything and more and always checked to see if I was ok trying certain foods. She also talked about Mexican cuisine in general. The tour was a wonderful introduction to Mexican culture and cuisine. If you love the intersection between food and culture, this is the tour for you.

We (only two of us on this tour) visited several street food stalls and carts and also went inside a Mercado. Clara was a wonderful guide and provided an excellent overview of the food and answered all of our questions. I have a lactose intolerance, and she accommodated my needs. Unfortunately I wasn't feeling well due to altitude sickness and dehydration, so our tour was modified so that we could skip the last few stops and settle in at a locally-sourced chocolate bar/cafe. I'm rating this tour 4 out of 5 stars because the price per person seems a bit high for the small portion sizes (tastes and halves) of food per person. The fresh squeezed juice bar was a highlight for me. It seemed that Mexico City street food is overall very heavy and greasy. My husband really liked the food and he can eat anything.
