Korean alcohol is a lot more than just a green bottle of soju, which is diluted ethanol with artificial sweetener. Broadly, Korean alcohols are divided into Tak-ju (unfiltered rice wine), Cheong-ju (filtered clear rice wine) and So-ju (distilled spirit). Here, we will focus on our specialty, soju, but we can also taste other types too.
Samhae soju was a beloved choice of spirit among the noble class of Joseon dynasty(1392~1894). This luxurious alcohol had caused cult following, but the making was so resource(rice)-heavy that production had to stop during famines. The current master, Hyeonjong Kim had learned and practiced for more than 10 years under master Taeksang Kim who had inherited and kept the recipe in the family. Sadly, master Taeksang Kim passed away in 2021. We will have a privilege to taste the history.

My family had a fantastic time at the soju tasting experience, where we got to sample a wide variety of South Korea's most popular drink, expertly crafted on-site. What made this experience truly stand out was the unique opportunity to learn about the soju-making process, paired with the fascinating history behind it. The whole experience was elevated by the thoughtful food recommendations we received at the end, which added a lovely touch to our Seoul adventure. We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to Sam for providing such a valuable and memorable experience, which greatly enriched our overall Seoul experience.

This was great and I learned something new and interesting. I really like soju and these sojus were excellent. Much better than the green bottle ones you can buy all over Korea. Sam was a great host.

My friends and I had a GREAT time learning about the history and processing of soju. We enjoyed walking around the distillery and learning about how it all gets made, but more importantly, we really enjoyed our host. He was extremely knowledgeable, hilarious, and gave us restaurant recommendations after. I would definitely recommend this experience to a friend (especially those who enjoy the "green bottle" soju [which we learned is not real soju])

It was much more than just tasting. Sam was funny and gave us lots of information. I learned a lot and it was fun sharing this experience with other travelers from all over the world, hearing others’ experiences with alcohol, and sharing travel tips with each other.

Sam was very knowledgeable and funny. He explained all about the process of making Soju and more about South Korean culture. We had a really good time. Better than we thought it could be.
