The museum was a gem. Small yet packed with incredible paintings, sculptures and musical instruments. Martina was a great guide. She explained the history and provided interesting insights. I’d highly recommend her!

We could not have asked for a better guide than Martina. The Accademia Gallery is not large, but her deep knowledge of the art and artists made our visit there a very rich experience. Michelangelo’s David is the hallmark of the gallery, but her analysis of, and insights into, the artist’s lesser-known works made our viewing of David far more poignant than it might otherwise have been. Her presentation of the art was skillfully planned, often humorous, and her questions of us were thoughtful. As a plus, she was generally interested in our impressions of the pieces we viewed.

We arrived in the Accademia area about 8:45am to long lines. Thankfully, Martina, our charming young guide was looking out for us and ushered us right in. No wait. In 1 1/2 hours, she showed us the highlights of the Gallery, focusing on Michaelangelo's sculptures, including the David, and the instruments, including the Stradivarius violin. Clearly, Martina is an art historian who knows the gallery and is able to impart her knowledge in clear and succint English language. Because my daugher is a violinist, we requested time in the musical instrument gallery; Martina was just as well-versed about it. This tour was one of the best we had in Italy and worth every penny.
