Most visitors stay at the same tourist sites, but rarely get to experience real life as a local…so, we've designed a journey to Iztapalapa, an area that reflects the daily lives of 2 million people, that otherwise, you would never hear about.

This urban district is the largest in the city, full of culture, street food, traditions, and history that comes as far from the Aztecs.

What will we do?
The adventure starts Downtown, where we’ll take the subway towards the suburbs.
Then we’ll visit a local museum to learn the best facts about Iztapalapa, their traditions, and their history.
Then, the crown jewels: We’ll fly like birds in the largest cable car in the world for a stunning and colorful view of the street art and the immensity of the valley.
In between, we’ll visit a local market and an amazing airplane converted into a cultural venue.
We’ll come back home by metro, finishing with a pre-hispanic drink in a bar.

Our guide Fernando was excellent and have us a unique perspective of the city. This tour is definitely different with rides on metros and cable cars. I'd highly recommend this tour if you want to do something non-toursty.

I can’t express enough how much fun and thorough Fernando was! He explained everything with so much passion and knowledge. He was very caring of our wellbeing throughout the tour. What a privilege to be exposed to other areas outside CDMX. I highly highly recommend this tour.

Fernando gave one of the best tours we've taken (ever). On our trip, we did a handful of group activities, but also went off the beaten path on our own at other times. Fernando along with Alix were our guides, and we have the utmost respect! So much information, efficient, organized, great interpersonal awareness, and it is really unique tour.

I wish more of my friends had known of it on their visits, as I think all of them would enjoy this! Be prepared for it to be a longer tour (better value!). And know that you are going to areas outside where most tourists go. The Cable Car transit system itself was fascinating to observe, as it is relatively new. One of our favorite things was learning about the investment in communities (Utopia project, the airplane libraries!), mural project (new and unique!), and other details like learning that the Metro system in CDMX has a front car just for women + children (if only we had this in the USA).

One of the favorite things we did on our 9 day stay. Perhaps if you are on the older end, have mobility issues, or are a bit skittish about walking amongst regular folk going to and from their jobs and everyday lives (outside the touristy areas), you can skip this. Otherwise if you are curious, good at walking, and the photos look curious to you- go for it.

Note: Fernando runs a *tight* ship on time, so BE EARLY. We almost got left behind ;)

I recommend not skipping the experience of traveling on the CDMX cable car. The city looks beautiful from this means of transportation.

Something completely different from what I had experienced before. From this cable car you can see the entire city (some incredible photos come out).

On a trip in which we did everything from Hot Air Balloons over Teotihuacan, rummaged at open air markets, entered a magical cave off the beaten path, ate everything from street food to fine dining... our tour with Fernando was a MUST! He along with Alix were warm, friendly, knowledgeable. Fernando really has the history down as well as modern social context. We learned things we certainly would not have gotten from any other tour, but more importantly this is the only existing tour that safely takes you off the tourist path... in a fun, efficient manner.

Fernando's interpersonal skills and organization are top notch. He gives so much information and is very fair about making sure everyone hears all there is (he traded off to make sure we all got plenty of attention!). Alix was friendly and practiced spanish with me.

Be aware that he is a stickler on time, and ARRIVE EARLY. We nearly got left behind being 5 min late (he did say to arrive early), and it would have been a shame! If more people knew about this tour (or if he had others he trained to give it), I feel the visitors to CDMX would have a wealth of benefit.

Every friend who has come to town would have loved this if they knew of it! Very fortunate that we learned of the Cable Cars through a random YouTube video and then saw this Viator listing.
