Had an amazing trek with Franklin. He was super fun to have as a guide. The trek was very organized, but due to the small group size, we were able to switch things around if we wanted (ie: hike a little extra to see special viewpoints at sunset). The views on this trek were out of this world. I can't say enough great things about the food. I could not believe how they were cooking such amazing meals. Also, I felt very safe and cared for the entire time. I had to be provided oxygen the first night due to the altitude and my guide made sure I was okay and was prepared to request special assistance if need be. He was very kind and encouraging throughout the challenging parts of the hike. Overall, this was a beautiful experience and I would highly recommend.

Such a wonderful 7-Day trek! The remoteness and beauty was unbelievable. Everything about Salkantay Trekking company made it all the better. The food, for a tent-camping trip was just superb. Revising our trip midway for more time at Rainbow mountain and the Red Valley was greatly appreciated. A wonderful, competent, flexible company. We also enjoyed going with Salkantay on the 5-day Salkantay Trek. I'd return for another trek with Salkantay Trekking without question.

This review is based on the 5-Day Ausangate Trek (not available on the drop-down menu).
Putting the 'Ausangate' Trek into words is almost as challenging as the hike itself, as words really cannot do this experience justice - from the breathtaking(literally) scenes of mountains, lagoons & basecamps, to the quality & abundance of food, warmth & care provided.
The trek itself is very challenging indeed, mostly due to the high elevation, having said that, the constant support of Franklin(Guide), Avelino(Horseman) & Edwin(Chef) is sure to make you feel safe & optimistic in the midst of the high altitude. Their genuine care & attention to detail & efficiency made the trek not just doable, but comfortable, enjoyable & in my opinion, even humbling. These guys went above & beyond to tend to every need!
I'd highly recommend Salkantay (especially Franklin, Avelino & Edwin) when committing to such an experience.
You're probably going to need a few days of recovery 😅, but it's totally worth it 👊🏽

It is completely beautiful to walk three days in the vicinity of Ausangate. Incredible landscapes and a lot of silence. Our guide, César, was wonderful company.

Best experience!!! Our guide was called Felix - and he was absolutely brilliant!! Very knowledgeable, friendly and approachable - and he truely made the trek! Food was amazing! Incredibly organised. Very safe. If anyone wants to trek in Peru - I strongly advise the company Salkantay Treking company - and recommend this particular hike Ausangate - views were astonishing

Absolutely incredible experience. Life changing hiking and views. Could not fault the team on anything. Our tour guide Felix/ Rambo was such a kind soul! He was informative and fun telling lots of amazing stories and giving us lots of information on the local people and culture. He was so encouraging on the hike and made sure we were all ok throughout. The food was exceptional, I don’t know how our chef cooked up such a treat in the middle of nowhere!!!

We did the 5-day trek circumnavigating Ausangate mountain.
It was amazing!
I will remember this trip for the rest of my life!
The views are spectacular and the hiking very enjoyable.
We met traditional alpaca herders who live above 15,000 elevation, saw crystalline lakes, animals and birds and every face of this stunning mountain.
Our team of guide Nico Huillca, cook Juan Carlos Suma and horseman Juvenal were warm, encouraging and enthusiastic. Juan Carlos’ cooking was truly excellent— quality far beyond what I’d expect on a backcountry trek.
The route is very well designed— each day challenging but do-able.
Highly recommend!

It was an incredible trek with amazing views from start to finish. Be prepared for the altitude and cold temperatures.
The team that accompanied us was very professional at all times. They were prepared for unexpected changes on the route in order to provide the best and safest experience considering the weather conditions at the time. Many thanks to Juanito, Alex Jara and Beltrán for accompanying us throughout the route, for the excellent food and spectacular service. They were always willing to support us in any situation and make the route very pleasant!

A few things to start: I did this trip in October of 2022, and did the Ausangate *4 day* trek with Rainbow mountain (not listed anymore). I'm very very late with this review but was looking as some pictures from the trip today and felt inspired to write a review because it was truly an amazing hike.
The Ausangate trek was incredible (top notch views, ever changing landscape, mostly no crowds). The primary guide Juvenal was also amazing, and the hot meals were great. I joined this group trek last minute after spending a month in Peru doing other multi-day treks including the Salkantay, the Santa Cruz trek, and a bunch of other day hikes. As a solo (female) trekker, I was a bit nervous about doing the Ausangate alone, so I joined the guided group and am very glad that I did. I was at the highest altitude of my entire trip during this trek, and even with good acclimation and not carrying my usual amount of supplies, it was *tough*. Everyone in our group was very fit and active, but even with great fitness and a bit of acclimation, some folks felt unwell from the altitude after day 2. The guide and others were great at helping those who felt unwell while still managing the rest of the hikers in the group. Just make sure to do lots of other high altitude trekking before this particular hike, and try to get a few good nights sleep before embarking on the Ausangate.
Would 100% recommend the tour company overall for any multi-day trekking trip (great organization, food, and equipment). Also shout out again to Juvenal the main guide; he was fantastic with everyone in our group, extremely knowledgable about the landscape/history of the the area, and provided great company during this trek.
