The 5-Day Premium Salkantay Trek was worth every penny. My expectations regarding lodging, food, and the trekking crew were exceeded. Salkantay Trekking takes care of every trip detail, allowing you just to hike and experience Peru. The food was unbelievable. Our chef, Eliaser, created fresh and delicious meals, and there were lots of them! Our sleeping and duffel bags were always waiting for us at the next camp, safe and dry. The best part of our trip was Fredy Chucya, our guide. He communicated clearly, was knowledgeable, had a great sense of humor, and went over and beyond taking care of all of our needs. His energy was infectious! I’m gonna miss that guy.

The trek with this company was incredible. From the food and lodging, to the logistics and transportation everything was spot on and well planned. Our tour guide Fredy Chucya was hands down the best guide ever. He was knowledgeable, humble, and friendly. I did this with a group of friends and it was like we were hiking with a friend. He fit in so well with us. The company is lucky to have him. Our chef Eliezer was top notch. Great young man making delicious meals for us every day. Our porter Christian was awesome as well. We felt like we had the best crew of all the groups. The accommodations were beyond expectations and this was by far the best way to experience the Andes and Peru. Highly recommend the trek and if you can get Fredy do it!

Firstly, I can’t speak highly enough of our tour guide, Nico. Everything else was left in the hands of Nico and all we had to do was enjoy. It’s so obvious he loves sharing his knowledge of the area and its history. The guy has an impeccable sense of humor and was such a joy to be around. By the end of the trip, he was essentially a part of the family.
On the actual hike, you should definitely take it seriously. I would spend a few months seriously preparing to walk the distances / elevation each day. It’s really the only part of the trip we had to “prepare” for - everything else was flawlessly executed by our team. There’s options to take a horse on a particularly brutal climb, and buses between most of the campsites - but with some preparation and training I wouldn’t be overly concerned.
The food was a 5* experience and not only because we walked all day each day. Peru has a vast amount of fresh fruits and vegetables and the variety of our meals did not leave us wanting (or hungry).
Of course, Machu Picchu was incredible. It was fun to end up there after spending 4-5 days with Nico giving us a ton of historical background leading up to it.

Every day was well organized, the food and accommodations exceeded expectations, and the hiking was world-class. Salkantay Trekking is very professional, the staff prepares you for each day so you can make the most of the hiking. Our tour guide Nico made the trip memorable; he had a great sense of humor and went above and beyond to ensure our family had a great experience. I would highly recommend the hike and the tour company—it was one of our favorite trips.

The entire trip was expertly managed by the team; attention to detail was second to none.
Each of the locations for overnight stay were of the highest quality and the views on each of the days were truly magical.
One of the hardest and demanding trips I’ve ever done in my life; a real challenge at altitude but an experience I wouldn’t swap for anything.
Well done to all the members of our group; who overcame personal goals and earned a wealth of achievement.

Though very physically demanding, Nico made this a very pleasurable trip. He was an excellent guide that I would place in the top 2%. The vistas were absolutely beautiful. Nico‘s knowledge on the history and his surroundings was unmatched. I highly recommend this trek, this company, and Nico.

Salkantay Trekking provided our family with an amazing, once in a life-time experience! Reserving was easy and they were great at communicating before the trip on all of the details. Everything ran like clock-work they whole time and it was very well organized. Nico was our guide and we wouldn't go with anyone else if we did it again! He is so informative and friendly! He is exceptional at communicating the schedule and trail details for each day and is a motivating force when the hiking gets hard. He did an especially great job explaining the history and the ruins at Machu Picchu - which was more amazing than I could have imagined. Herbert was our cook and the food was excellent and way beyond any expectations we had before the trip. We were NEVER hungry and he was always on time. Franklin was our horseman and he also helped out Herbert at meal times. He was friendly and helpful and always had our duffles laid out when we arrived at our camps. The hike itself was truly amazing. It's hard to pick a favorite day as every day is something new. Be sure you train as the hike is pretty rigorous. There is a way to take a bus on day three and four instead of hike if you are worn out, but you would really be missing out on some incredible hiking. Lastly, the accommodations that Salkantay Trekking has set up were above expectations. Except for the first night, we had our own bathroom/shower all of the other nights. We stopped at some really charming places along the hike as well. And can I make a comment on bathrooms? - there are bathrooms all along the trail (little stands that also sell drinks and snacks), which was a total surprise (and relief) to us. If you are hesitating - just do it!

Loved it!! Well organized. Great jungle lodges. Guide Fredy Apaza and Ruben were awesome. They spared no effort to make this a memorable event for group of 12!! Chef Juan Carlos made sure we got variety of meals daily including vegetarian, gluten free, no cheese in the middle of no where!!
