There are two Chinatowns, one that you see from a van or bus, and the one that can only be experienced on foot in the back alleys, food markets, and local restaurants.

One Chinatown, the one from the bus, is interesting. Our Chinatown will surprise you with new adventures around every corner. In our Chinatown, artisans form Fortune Cookies by hand. In our Chinatown, artisans practice their craft in small alleys using techniques handed down for thousands of years. And in our Chinatown, the authentic cuisine will enliven your senses with new flavors, smells, and aromas.

We'll explore exotic and unique Asian produce, herbs, and teas from the very people who know them best. We'll uncover their hidden secrets only intrepid locals know. And you'll be astonished by the new finds in secret alcoves.

We'll spend about three hours eating everything from Dim Sum, fortune cookies, teas, and more.

…is a food tour for a first-time visit. I have been to several food tours within the USA and outside the USA. Of all the food tours I have joined, Brian (tour guide) has a lot of words to say. I wish there were a siopao, Chinese doughnut, egg tarts, etc. I don't know why he added to the tour the chocolate by Jade when it does not have Chinese influenced. He did over-time from 10:30am to 3:12pm. We did have a lovely group of people in our tour.

Firstly, our guide Brian, was great and we knew from the outset that the tour would be interesting and engaging upon meeting him.
It’s a great way to tour this area of the city but more so to gain an insight into the historical reasons for its development and how the area has been impacted by the past few years.
The food was a great mixture of all aspects of Chinese cuisine- all very authentic and exactly as you would sample in China itself. The bakery products at the start were delicious, as were both restaurant experiences. The 2 highlights for me though, were the moon cake (previously not a fan), and the tea sampling (not a tea fan either!!). The proprietor of the tasting room was engaging, knowledgeable and funny and made the sampling a very memorable experience.

Brian, our guide is a never-ending Comstock Lode of amazing information as well as a genetic embodiment of San Francisco's history. He has been coming to Chinatown since he was a little boy with his Chinese auntie. I don't think you could find a more enthusiastic or loquacious host. He is a capacious cornucopia or everything you could ever want to know. He invests great care and forethought in every aspect of the tour.

This was an awesome tour. Lots of history, the food was so good. We had a few little extras thrown in and was glad to learn about true Medicinal purposes of and taste various teas. I took photos of each place so I can go back again!

The tour is fast paced, but no complaints here. There is so much to see, learn and try in Chinatown and we accomplished alot in 3 hours. There is some uphill streets on the tour but not excessive. Our guide minimized that; especially considering the hills in San Francisco.

Highly recommend this tour. You won’t be disappointed.

Our guide André was well informed and a terrific host to Chinatown. We've been to San Francisco's Chinatown more than a few times over the years--popping into a shop or two and taking in the sights--but this time, we learned and came away with a far better sense of Chinatown's history and where it's at currently. The food (dim sum! roast duck! best green beans ever!), snacks (dim sum, pastries, fortune cookies, and tea) were delicious. We hope to take another tour with André when we return to San Francisco.

Scott really ‘gets’ the fabric of the city in its early days & lovingly shared the ups & downs of who did what how. Great food stops - arrive hungry!
