Little Africa highlights locations significant to the history of Black people in Rio de Janeiro, places that were previously overlooked and silenced. The guided tour includes a decolonial narrative and essential attractions, such as the Valongo Wharf, a UNESCO World Heritage site since 2017. Over one million enslaved Africans disembarked at this wharf, making it the largest slave port in the Americas.
This tour is a journey through the resilience of a people who reinvented themselves in the diaspora, significantly influencing Brazil's civilizational values, national identity, and culture.
During this experience, you will see and experience:
Afro-Brazilian Heritage;
Afro-Carioca Art;
Afro Cuisine;
Architectural Heritage;
Cultural Awareness.
Little Africa is part of the African Diaspora in the World and the Slave Route, a global UNESCO project. Expand your understanding of ethnic diversity and the fight for equality in Brazil!

Carolina was EXCEPTIONAL! My wife and I really appreciate how thorough, and knowledgeable she was about the entire Afro-Brazilian experience and heritage. She showed immense passion in presenting the information on culture, neighborhoods, and history…both happy and dark scenarios, to educate us on important information.

Decolonial tour about the life of enslaved africans in Rio de Janeiro. Tour included archaelogical sites in old town. Very experienced, well educated guide. Bruna has history degree and she helped us to understand nuances about history of afro-brazilians‘s life nowaddays and in the past.

Bruna is a book personified! She was an amazing guide and gave us a wonderful lesson about Little Africa. Chilling from beginning to end. The Etnias agency is committed to responsible tourism that goes beyond the obvious in the proposed itineraries. I loved the tours I took and I really want to do more next time!

This walk was exciting!
The guide Bruna gave us all the information so that we could understand and learn more about Little Africa. It was impeccable!
Regarding the agency's service, I needed to resolve a mistake in the reservation, I was promptly assisted by Emily.
I recommend this experience with Etnias and I even want to do other itineraries.

It was amazing! It's admirable to see the powerful work you do! It was a morning of a lot of learning and, particularly, very touching, especially because it was directly affected by this story! Thank you very much and a special congratulations to the guide who, despite the excessive heat of the day, imparted all possible knowledge in almost 4 hours of tour in a very didactic and
structure of both the history and archeology of Little Africa and Brazil. We are very grateful and leave with a warm heart to see that there are many black people studying and being able to tell their own story! ✊🏽✊🏽✊🏽

We had Val as our guide and he was incredible! He spoke English well enough and taught us a lot about the African Brazilian culture and history. He even took us to a few places that we had missed on a previous tour because they were closed. We really enjoyed this tour and our guide Val. Thanks Val for a great day! I highly recommend!

The Little Africa Tour is a must for anyone who wants to see a side of the city full of history from a different perspective. It was one of those trips that leaves us thinking for days... it leaves the circuit and makes us travel through time and space.
