This was an incredible trip which I will remember forever. The variety of landscapes, from snow tipped mountains, to green farmlands to the jungle were breathtaking. Our guide Ramiro was knowledgable, friendly, and passionate about teaching us the ecological and historical backgrounds of our route. The trail is difficult at times, especially given the altitude, but the accomodation (especially the mountain view sky camp) and meals (which were so tasty) provided make it a much more comfortable environment. I would definitely recommend acclimatising to the altitude for at least a day and a half, and ensure that this time is not spent doing any strenuous activities, Cusco is a beautiful city with lots to see. I have already recommended this trip to several of my friends and I can’t imagine there is a better company to do it with than Salkantay Trekking.

We had so much fun with the company! It was our first time trekking, and it was challenging, but our guide, Ramiro, made it great.
The food prepared by our chef, "Justin Bieber," was better quality than the food at Cusco restaurants. Highly recommend. !!!!

Amazing experience of a lifetime! Trek is SUPER challenging, altitude sickness makes it worse. Our guide Americo was amazing, he was very knowledgeable and helpful. I had so much nausea on top of Salkantay that I kept throwing up coming down. Couldn't walk at a point due to extreme fatigue and altitude sickness, our guide picked up my hiking backpack, and helped me walk down for few minutes. Our chef Elisban was wonderful and cooked delicious meals all throughout our trek keeping in mind our dietary preferences (I am vegetarian). The trek is not for the faint hearted, our guide mentioned people who run marathons are trained well for this kind of hike.

The night accomodations were very scenic with beautiful mountain views. The trek itself is very scenic and through all kinds of terrain: mountains, snow and forest.

The 4 day Salkantay private trek was undoubtedly one of the toughest things we've done but the sights and experience were unbeatable. It wouldn't have been possible without the amazing team behind it with special thanks to our guide Américo who was with us every step of the way, in sickness and health, in fun and laughter, in capturing memories for us which we will cherish for time to come. Graciás por todos Amigos!

Amazing tour, and very good tour guides. Even though it was challenging some times, it was worth it doing the tour instead of just taking the train to Machu Picchu.

wish I could give a full review of the 4 Day Salkantay tour itself. Unfortunately, my husband came down with pretty intense altitude sickness that wasn't improving and we were forced to change plans last minute. HOWEVER, I only have glowing things to say about the experience working with Salkantay Trekking as they helped us to accommodate this last minute change of plan. They showed genuine concern for my husband's well being and asked after his symptoms to make sure that we were making the correct choice to cancel and that he wasn't in an danger. They then made arrangements for us to meet up with our original group a few days later and at a lower elevation. It was disappointing to miss our hike, but thanks to the office staff we were still able to rejoin our friends im Aguas Calientes and see Machu Picchu as planned. Tour guide Juvenal Cjumo was in communication with us as we caught up to the group and worked hard to make us feel included, even though we had missed the first few days. He gave a thorough and interesting tour of Machu Picchu and I felt like we made the absolute most of our time there. He was extremely attentive to our schedule and to the needs of the group right up until we were dropped off back in Cusco.

I would recommend Salkantay Trekking (and especially Juvenal as a guide) to anyone planning this trip. And if you are considering it, but concerns about altitude have you on the fence, I hope my positive experience even in the face of having to cancel helps you make your choice.
