We only had a short stay in Sicily and we wanted to go horseback riding and see Godfather filming locations, so this excursion was made to order for us! We were picked up from our hotel in Taormina by our guide, Marco. He was on time, friendly, knowledgeable, took great photos for us and never rushed us.
Franco led our hour long horseback ride from Rancho Hildago through gorgeous Sicilian countryside with views of villages, Ionean Sea, and Mt. Etna peaking through the clouds now and then. Franco was friendly and we could see his passion for his horses and locality although he spoke little English. We are intermediate riders and didn't need much direction, but this might not work too well for inexperienced riders, especially children. However it was a dream cone true for us!
Then we went to lunch at a little local place that overlooked Savoca, where GF was filmed. Lunch was delicious and the staff was so friendly and welcoming.
Finally, we went to Bar Vitelli and then walked up to St. Lucia Church where major scenes were filmed. There are additional locations that are included on other GF tours, but this one only focused on these. We were fine with that since these were the 2 places we wanted to see and we didn't want to spread ourselves too thin in one day.
Marco did an excellent job of providing background on the mafia, Godfather filming, and many recommendations for the remainder of our stay. On our return trip Marco even stopped so I could dip my hands in the Ionean Sea, which I hadn't figured out how to make happen although it was on my must-do list for this trip.
This was the perfect day for my hubby and me!
