1. Yin Yang Sea
Watch the bay where the sea is a mix of yellow and blue before heading to Jiufen.
2. Jinguashi 13 Ruins
The Remains of the 13 Levels is a former smelter plant in Lianxin Village, Ruifang District, New Taipei, Taiwan. It is also called the Potala Palace of Mountain Mines.
3. Golden Waterfall
Golden Waterfall is located in Jinguashi. Although real gold flowing from these falls would be too good to be true, the water is certainly a beautiful gold color as a result of the combination of regular rainfall in this mining area and the abundance of heavy metal elements deposited in the riverbed.
4. Chiufen (Jiufen Old Street)
With an unmatched old town atmosphere and seaside flair, Jiufen is a must see spot when visiting northern Taiwan. Always teeming with tourists, you might notice that Japanese people make up a huge proportion of the crowds gathered. Many are keen to catch a glimpse of the setting of Hayao Miyazaki's Academy Award winning “Spirited Away”, especially the iconic red lanterns. This is also a film mecca for lovers of Taiwanese film, especially fans of Hou Hsiao-hsien's “A City of Sadness”, which utilized Jiufen as the backdrop to the events of the 228 Incident. Given Hou’s recent award of Best Director in the 2015 International Cannes Film Festival for his new film “The Assassin”, we expect even more people will make their way here in years to come.
5. Shifen Waterfall
Shifen Waterfall is the most renowned cascading waterfall in Taiwan. The watercourse is from Keelung River, height 20 m. (66 ft.) and width 40 m. (131 ft.).
6. Shifen Old Street
Shifen Old Street is a bustling hub for those eager to get a glimpse of an old railroad town which still retains the charm of yesteryear. Originally built to transport coal, the Shifen Old Street stop has now become one of the most popular on the Pingxi rail-line. It is easy to see why so many are drawn here - local food, souvenir shops and puffing trains add to the charm of this little gem, as well as make it a fantastic place for photography.

We loved this tour. Steven was an excellent guide. We went on a very hot and humid day but he allowed us to move at our own pace and also kept the car nice and cool for us. Great value for the price!

Excellent private tour. Our guide Mr. Wang was incredibly knowledgable and gave us a fantastic day in Taipei. We learnt about history, art, culture and much more. We are well traveled and have high standards, and we were very happy with Mr. Wang.

We traveled to Taipei with family ranging in age from 15 to 90 and we wanted to venture outside the city. This 6-hour tour fit our schedule and was jam-packed with activities. The Pingxi sky lantern experience is unique and was a family favorite. For the older members in our group, the Shifen Waterfall hike was a bit challenging with the heat and humidity, however Bubble, our amazing tour guide, planned ahead and we were able to borrow wheelchairs to get them easily to the falls and back. The sunset and lanterns at Jiufen were beautiful. It was very crowded so our only regret is not visiting during the week (less busy) and we also wish we had more time there to explore the many shops and food stalls. If you haven't visited before, we highly recommend this tour.

Toku, our tour guide, is amazing! He put dry towels, water bottles and umbrellas in the car for us. We realized that we needed all of them. It rained so hard when we arrived Shifen, but we were not affected by the weather at all as we were so prepared. He shared a lots of interesting histories of the Shifen & Jiufen area and it made this trip even more memorable. In addition , the restaurant that he recommended was very good, see the 2nd picture here. Highly recommend the tour!

Great tour. Tour guide Paul was great and tailored to our desires. Loved the beautiful waterfall and suspension bridge. Launching sky lantern was fun activity. Lunch at Jiufen was delicious and in pleasant air conditioned restaurant.

This is totally worth it and I appreciate that it is customizable for where you want to spend more time or less time. Before the trip, our driver, Steven, contacted us with friendly and thorough information. We wanted to spend more time in Old Shifen and Jiufen and fewer photo ops along the way, and Steven accommodated us and made great suggestions. He always made sure we were aware of where to be, toured with us the whole time, and gave us time to wander on our own. He was on time and a pleasure to speak with and always professional. HIghly recommend this tour for a day trip out of Taipei

We did a half day private tour with Hicks to Jiufen, Shifen waterfall and Pingxi. This was the best tour we did in Taiwan. Hicks was very knowledgeable, accommodating and kind. The lantern lighting ceremony was amazing and we stopped for a drink and snack in Jiufen overlooking Keelung. Best to go in late afternoon. We highly recommend Hicks! Great tour!
