From start to finish I would say this was the best trip we have ever done. We were collected from our hotel in Hanoi and taken in a very nice car (WiFi on board) to Ha Long Bay. Our guide Coco met us there and was amazing the entire trip. His English was perfect and he knew all about the history of the islands and was so accommodating with any needs we had. The boat itself was a beautiful old junk and the rooms were clean with amazing views from the window. The crew were professional and friendly and a special mention for the chef…I haven’t eaten so much amazing food in all my life. Every meal was more than 6 courses and delicious. My husband doesn’t eat seafood and they replaced any fish dishes with beautifully cooked steaks, pork, duck and chicken. We did kayaking, cooking, cave exploring, squid fishing, visited a fishing village and had a wonderful beach BBQ. It was genuinely sad leaving the boat. On our way back to Hanoi we were taken to a water puppet show which was a lovely way to break up the journey. All in all I would say it was the perfect holiday adventure.

Finding the right company to do a cruise in Halong Bay was so overwhelming we nearly didn’t do one. However, IndoChina Junk tours was recommened by a blogger, it made the decision so much easier.
* smaller boat options ( we chose Dragon’s Pearl which has only 10 cabins)
* the boats go to Bai Tu Long Bay, away from the majority of the tour boats
* spend two nights aboard.

Everything about the tour was exceptional.
* the communication during the booking process
* the hotel pick up and delivery was brilliant (we came from Ninh Binh and got dropped back at Hanoi)
* the initial arrival and orientation to the boat
* our tour guide CoCo was so helpful and clear in his guidance
* the whole crew were friendly and efficient
* the cabins were comfortable - with excellent AC.
* the activities were just right…not too busy, and interesting ( kayaking, squid fishing, fishing villabe, cooking demo)
* BBQ on the beach was incredible
* the FOOD WAS AMAZING! Five or six courses, fresh seafood ( but great alternatives if you dont like seafood), beautifully presented.

We booked the Prince Junk 3 day, 2 night experience based on previous reviews. The boat has 4 cabins and was described as a boutique experience. The service and communication prior to travel, and on the boat, was outstanding. Food was abundant and tasty. Staff were excellent. Drinks were pricey - especially for wine. Credit to the staff . . . when they ran out of cheaper wine options, they replenished the next day. The boat is not new, and in terms of luxury - compared to luxury hotel standards - is slightly less impressive.
One of the things we were disappointed by was the marketing of "pristine beaches". There is no such thing here. Reality is that the water is riddled with garbage floating at surface level. Kayaking and swimming experiences are tainted by this. See picture of the beach we went to for our BBQ lunch. We chose to swim off the boat in cleaner water rather than from this beach, as suggested by #Chang our lovely tour guide.
Also, beware that the transfer home is long, and depending on your tolerance level, a little painful. Backroads are used to detour to a rural area for a puppet show. As per some previous reviews, instead of being a 2.5 hr trip back to Hanoi, it becomes a 5 hr experience. And don't forget the obligatory gift shop!
Would we do it again? No!
Do we regret it? No!
It was good to see. The landscape is awesome. Waking up to limestone island formations to view from your bedroom is spectacular.
All in all, we had a lovely time travelling with our friends. We saw really interesting things. We learned a lot. If you are considering this trip, you just need to weigh up what your level of expectation is in terms of "pristine" and "luxury". The staff will go to the end of the earth for you. This is an exceptional level of customer service.

It was great! The coordination was very smooth, and Harry the guide was exceptional. Would 100% rate this as a must do for couples. We did bai tu long bay, which is way less crowded than halong bay, do try it.

We had an amazing trip on the dragon legend cruise with Indochina Junk. One of our favorite parts was the crew & amazing customer service! Our tour guide Quân was top notch! He was always so attentive and ensuring all guests were having the best time, it was truly a wonderful experience because of his & the crews efforts. We would 100% return again and recommend to all!

This was a phenomenal trip! The service was great (Coco was our amazing guide), the food was amazing (6+ course meals for every meal) and the activities were perfect. 10/10!
