Beautiful park and they allow only a small number of visitors per day. That meant on our two hikes in the park, we didn't meet anyone else. Our guide was very knowledgeable and knew what to point out.

My son and I had a wonderful day tour of Chingaza with Lluis and Hector. Lluis was extremely knowledgeable and personable, and the park is gorgeous. I highly recommend Andes Ecotours!

I teach biology at a community college and am passionate about wildlife and went to Colombia, in part, to experience its beautiful places and unique flora and fauna. I was very interested in seeing the Paramo and booked a last minute tour with Andes EcoTours while in Bogota.

It is a full day trip and worth every penny. Pick up was a 8am and we were dropped off at the hotel around 6pm.

Pick up was prompt. Hector (both a guide and driver) picked up my son and I at 8am sharp and we left for Chingaza National Park. The ride is approximately 3 hours: an hour or so to La Caldera to deal with paperwork and pick up another guide, a park employee. (As another review said, I deeply regret not writing down the park guide's name. He was PHENOMENAL.)

During the ride Hector spoke about the park, Colombia, and everything from traffic in Bogota to recent political history. He is friendly and knowledgeable and from an area near the park. We drove in a 4X4 jeep-style car (I'm bad with car brands) which is absolutely necessary when you see the roads in the park, especially after or during a rain.

The park is at a high altitude. If you live at sea level and visit Bogota, take a day or two to acclimate to the altitude before taking this trek.

The guides discussed the history of the park on the way up and the conversation was interesting.

The first lookout point was spectacular. The sheer stark beauty of the Paramo, the mountains in every direction, the cold, the wind, the mist... all make the experience magical.

We drove to the second spot and hiked around the lakes. The frailejones are everywhere and just lovely. We also came across fresh bear tracks, but unfortunately did not see the bear. The guide was extremely knowledgeable. The walk is beautiful and muddy, but we were provided boots by the company.

After an hour, we got in the jeep and drove (descended) to cloud forest where we took another long hike. The cloud forest was lush with vegetation and full of birds. The guide pointed out bird species and plant species which I was interested in and talked about the reservoirs and a little ethnobotany as well. Perfect.

The entire day was well-paced and organized, informative, and the species found in the Paramo are beautiful to behold. If you are not from the Andes, when will you ever get to see such an environment? Aprovecha y disfruta.

I highly recommend the trip.

In summation; it is a long ride on a dirt road for a short time in the field. The Paramo is a long distance from Bogota or anywhere else which helps preserve the area. It is a unique ecosystem that occurs no where else. Understand that within the park boundaries there is cattle grazing and the “lake” is actually a reservoir. Fortunately the vehicle we rode in was nice, the guide fairly knowledgeable.

This was a fun, albeit tough, hike. The guides were well informed and helpful. The morning was well organized. We started in Parque 93 and drove to the Parque Nacional. Luckily they had some extra pairs of rain boots to loan us. But don't take a chance and bring your own! We hiked up from 2800m to about 3500m and got some really great views, up in the clouds. After we went back to the farm and were served an awesome local meal!.

Andes Ecotours very kindly helped reorganize our tour after multiple flight cancellations delayed our arrival in Colombia. They were super accommodating and communication over WhatsApp was helpful. The guides were all very nice and we enjoyed chatting with them. The hike itself is very rustic and beautiful. We had a real adventure in an incredible amount of rain.

Andes EcoTours is a topnotch organization that worked with me from planning to helping me out with my forgotten binoculars! We had an awe-inspiring trip to the Chingaza Paramo during which Camilo, our guide, and Hector. our driver, took great care of us. The views and hiking were beautiful, something you won't experience anywhere else. And Camilo kept us entertained on the seemingly long and bumpy trip back to Bogota. Yes, it involved some singing of 80's hits, totally optional, LOL! Camilo knows his wildlife and habitats, and we were able to see an Andean Pygmy Owl, which was even a first for Camilo. Hector is an expert birder. too. Thanks for a great trip.

Did a day trip to Chingaza National Park to see the páramo while we were in Bogotá. The tour was excellent - we loved Hector (driver) and Cabillo (guide). Both were super knowledgeable about the flora and wildlife and were able to excitedly explain just about everything. Would not hesitate to do another nature based tour with them upon our return to Bogotá.
