We just visited and really enjoyed the 3 hour tour. I learned a lot about the harvest of fibers from heneken, a type of agave. Felipe was great and shared information about the farm in both Spanish and English. The tour includes a swim in the cenote and we enjoyed an included snack and ordered some additional delicious food. The tour was educational, beautiful, and very enjoyable. All the staff made us feel welcomed. Highly recommend!

This was a horrible experience. We booked the excursion online where it clearly stated to meet at the office and that is where the tour would begin and end. When you get there they tell you no you have to meet at the Hacienda. The people in the office wouldn’t help and Viator who we booked through wouldn’t help either. Waiting to see if we will get a refund. Absolutely terrible experience and horrible customer service. So disappointed as it clearly stated to meet at the office on Calle 50 between Calles 58 and 60 which we did only to be told we can’t help you and won’t take you to the tour.

It is very interesting to know a hacienda that still works in henequen. The tour is very cool and at the end they take you to a beautiful cenote in a cart pulled by mules. I highly recommend her.
Felipe, our guide, a person with great knowledge, explained all the processes to us. I congratulate you!

Our tour guide, Filipe, was great! He spoke both Spanish and English throughout the tour. Very informative and interesting. Nice to learn about the history of the hacienda and about Sisal/Henequen.

My husband & I did a 10 day road trip in the Yucatan, starting from Playa del Carmen. We drove from Celestun to the Hacienda in time for the 11am tour. It was offered in French & Spanish, but I was able to understand enough. The tour seemed pricey but I thought it was worth it. Our group was about 12 people total. The guide was knowledgeable and charismatic. The pace was just right. We toured the house, then had a demonstration of how the Sisal rope is harvested and processed. The machines from the 1800s are still working! It was very impressive. A Tamarind ice tea drink was served by the rope demonstrations and then we got on the horse drawn trolley that pulled us through the hennequin fields to the private Cenote where we had a 30 minute swim. Life jackets were provided. The horse trolley brought us back to the Palapa restaurant where we were served sample foods from the region. They were very tasty and the Palapa was refreshingly cool in the afternoon heat.

When you balk at the somewhat high price, keep in mind that this operation could not support itself on Sisal processing alone. This is a tourism project that offers the visitor an inside view of colonial life during that time. Yes, it could be sad to think of the exploitation of the peasants and the ruling class Aristocracy of the times, but it was also insightful for understanding that part of Yucatan history.

YOU DON'T NEED TO PAY A LOT OF $$ for a tour company out of Merida. It was an easy, pleasant drive for an independent traveler. We did not book ahead of time, but rather paid by credit card upon arrival.

If you're interested in information about the sisal industry, haciendas and Mayan history this covers it all. Very explicit, good English guide although sometimes we did feel like we weren't given all the info that given to the Spanish folks. After wards given a ride on rail to a cenote to cool off. There is a liquor cart if you want to buy a Beveridge.

Our tour guide was Felipe. He explained us the history of haciendas in Mexico and made with us a tour through the hacienda buildings.
After that we had a live demonstration of the rope production starting with the Agave leaf and ending with a long rope.
The tour ends with a swim in the underground cenote.
