This was an excellent zoo - not for the number of animals, nor for having notable species not found in other zoos, but because the habitats are beautiful and the staff is amazing. Coming from Ohio, the swamp section was amazing. I was surprised to see not only animal exhibits there, but fantastic cultural information and displays on the people would have lived in the bayous for centuries, and their way of life. In multiple buildings, we had animal keepers approach us to tell us animals were about to be fed if we wanted to watch. On-site parking is free.

Fun liesurely stroll that needs to be timed just right.

I forgot how challenging zoos can be. Selecting to visit at a time it is not packed with school and camp kids running everywhere. Makes you wonder who is really watching who?

Arriving not so early that the animals are not up and about yet. Most were hiding in the cool shadiness of their inclosures, generally hidden.
I did see who I wanted to see the elephants, lions and monkeys. Missed the bears!

As a wheelchair visitor the paths were mixed between easy and sometimes challenging but Accessible none the less.

As it is open air and outside, there is plenty of turning space. The sprawling space across the entire zoo can be a drain on the best of powerchair batteries.

The exhibits can be a challenge at times for viewing from the seated position and others have full glass observation decks. Plenty of personal around to answer questions. Basically, this is not a world class innovative zoo but a simple city zoo with a typical collection of animals good for a fun day of walking and strolling
