The tea ceremony goes in a small group. The maximum number of people are 5 for each session.
Experience an authentic tea ceremony, which is near the Zen buddhist monastery Daitoku-ji Temple in Kyoto.
Daitoku-ji had many famous priest graduates in the history and has a close relationship with tea ceremony culture which has given a major influence to Japanese culture.
We are also not far from the World Cultural Heritage site, the Golden Pavilion Temple. (Kinkaku-ji)It's only four stops away by bus.
You’ll be provided with a tea container, tea bowl, tea scoops and whisks, and instruction on how to make matcha. You’ll also enjoy two bowls of matcha and two kinds of Japanese sweets.
Tea ceremony is a learned experience, and it leads to enlightenment, similar to Zen’s understanding of realizing the truth through self-discovery.

I absolutely loved tbis experience. I didn't want to leave Japan without doing a tea ceremony, but I also did not want to do something inauthentic or just made for mass tourism. This was truly a special experience and our Sensei had 20 years of experience. Her matcha was so delicious in comparison to thw one I made. I loved listening to the history of matcha and especially learning from a true sensei. Thank you for also providing a translator which made the experience even more enriching. A fabulous experience all around. Arigato gozaimasu.

It was such a great authentic experience! We had absolute No clue about japanese tea making, but we where guided All the way. It was a friendly, very calm but yet structure and step by step demonstration about making your own tea. Great english guide Who transmitted the tea masters doing and saying. Such Lovely People! And small groups, so It didn't seem "touristic". Highly recommend This Nice place. Cost about 3000 yen With at taxi from midtown kyoto. Best wishes from Henriksen in Denmark
