Experience Mexican food like never before with a market tour and cooking class! Learn about the ancient and colonial roots of the dishes you love, prepare them from scratch and feast like an emperor!

This is one of the most complete culinary experiences we've seen in Mexico City. Many places offer either market tours, classes or tastings, and they teach you how to make a single dish or a couple of related dishes. With us, you get the best of all worlds, as first, your guide will give you a comprehensive overview of the history of Mexican cuisine, then, you'll prepare an entire menu that consists of multiple courses and sides, and finally, you'll learn about and taste lots of local drinks. Not only does this represent great value for money, it also makes for an experience that's the highlight of many of our guests' time in Mexico!

We can happily plan for most dietary requirements, but unfortunately strict kosher is not possible at this time.

Jim is extremely knowledgeable and a lovely host. Our group was able to choose an experience and set of dishes that we were most interested in cooking. The experience is much more personable than the usual food tour and felt more like catching up with an old friend over an incredible meal.

A great day out with Jim , meeting at the Mercado and having the history, origin and the marriage of foods explained. Extremely interesting and a very knowledgeable young man with a passion for history and foods. Fluent Spanish, with English as his native language.
Back to his kitchen and hands on, messy and thoroughly enjoyable making Tamal verde - a traditional tamal available on lots of Mexico City street corners with a filling of shredded chicken/ Swiss Chard and cheese and tangy green tomatillo sauce.
Second course was,
Manchamanteles - With a name that translates as ‘tablecloth stainer’, Manchamanteles is a decadent central Mexican mole that gets its sweetness not from chocolate, but from generous chunks of fruit such as pineapple, plantain and nectarine.

Each of these moles is served with chicken and rice he’ll teach you to make fresh corn tortillas for mopping up any leftovers!
Drinks along the way makes for a great day.

Home style, personal and a small group that just worked well.
Couldn’t recommend this cooking class highly enough. Cheaper in price than some, smaller group that others but delivers in spades.
Thanks Jim 🙏

Jim’s market tour & cooking class was amazing! He was so knowledgeable, sharing wonderful info about Mexican cooking thru the ages so we could better understand how the dishes we were making came to be (tamales, mole, tortillas) and how they went together with our different drinks and yummy dessert. Jim was a wonderful market & cooking guide, not to mention an awesome host. Can’t wait to take another class w/him on my next visit to CDMX!

Jim was an excellent guide and chef. I appreciated his depth of knowledge and conversation throughout the experience. I left with a wider worldview about Mexican (culinary) history. Would definitely recommend to anyone who is looking for something unique, memorable, and a whole lot of fun!

After cooking the meal, I appreciate it the fact that it was the best food I had all week. Jim was from Oxford and very informative knowledgeable and nice. I wish hit some of the clay pots for sale and the beautiful wine that he served.
