We had a great Glacier Hike (3-hours, out of Skaftafell) with Troll Expeditions last week. Our guide Laura was wonderful, and made us feel safe. We had 9 people total in our group, and we were able to spend a lot of time on the glacier because everyone in our group got our crampons on so fast. My family members were my husband and myself (in our 50s, moderately fit), and our college age son (also moderate-to-very fit). We found the 3-hour experience to be moderate (at times a little challenging), and it was just the perfect amount of time and level of difficulty for us. It was a highlight of our trip. Laura from Poland - thanks for a great hike. We hope you make it to Greenland soon! : )

Firstly, we were impressed with the safety provided by Tröll. Other tours were only provided with crampons and picks but Tröll also provides helmets and safety harnesses. As our guide said, although 99% of the time safety measures (like seat belts) aren’t necessary you use them for that 1% when you absolutely do.

The guides were excellent and safely guided us over the glacier and answered all of our questions. It was an amazing experience and it should not be missed if you are in Iceland.

We unfortunately got put in a group with some slower walkers/climbers but it’s not the tour companies fault. I would recommend you walk quickly after getting off of the bus if you don’t want to be out in a slower group (or DO walk slower if a slower pace is more your style).

Would highly recommend them for this glacier hike.

We were able to walk up on the glacier, which was amazing. The tour provided crampons, helmets, and a safety briefing. Very cool experience and totally worth the money. It was very strenuous either, so almost anyone can do it. Highly recommend this tour!

We went on the 3 hour glacier hike to Skaftafell. Our guide, Cami, was fantastic! She made sure everyone was safe and learned how to get around on the glacier, paying special attention to our younger son and the other kids on the tour. She explained about the different features we could see, things that we couldn't see, and how glaciers form and change with the seasons. And she was great with making sure people could get photos, if they wanted, and could try unique experiences, like drinking directly from the glacier.

Even though the large off-road buses can take maybe 40 people, we broke up into smaller groups of about 12-14 people. And the Troll base at the meeting point has plenty of equipment to borrow / rent for whatever conditions you encounter.

Very organized, great guides! An awesome experience! I thought it would be very cold but one or two layers is fine.

We absolutely loved this excursion. Our guide Elle was fantastic. We definitely recommend both him and the excursion. Our group had all adults but we saw other groups with kids and some with elder adults. The walk to and from the glacier was so worth the experience.

Very basic and more standing around waiting then actual hiking. It was very windy that day which might have impacted the tour, but would have been better had they canceled tour.
