1. Acropolis
Sightseeing in Athens starts with the hill of Acropolis which will make your day. On the historical hill, you will have the opportunity to see the Odeon of Herodes Atticus, the Temple of the Athena Nike, the monumental gateway (Propylaea), the Erechtheum and of course the famous Parthenon, the main temple dedicated to the virgin goddess Athena.
2. Propylaea
The Propylaea is the monumental entrances to the sacred area dedicated to Athena, the patron goddess of the city. Built by the architect Mnesicles with Pentelic marble, their design was avant-garde. To the south-west of the Propylaea, on a rampart protecting the main entrance to the Acropolis, is the Ionian temple of Apteros Nike.
3. Parthenon
Parthenon, the main temple dedicated to the virgin goddess Athena. The eternal symbol of the Athenian Democracy and the Western Civilization.
4. Eretteo
Temple of Poseidon and Athena, the strangest and most sacred place in ancient Athens.
5. Temple of Athena Nike
Temple dedicated to the goddess Athena Nike or Wingless Victory.
6. Theater of Dionysus
The Theatre of Dionysus Eleuthereus is a major theatre in Athens, considered to be the world's first theatre, built at the foot of the Athenian Acropolis.
7. Herod Atticus Odeon
The Odeon of Herodes Atticus is a stone Roman theater structure located on the southwest slope of the Acropolis of Athens, Greece. The building was completed in 161 AD and then renovated in 1950.
8. Panathenaic Stadium
We will visit Panathenaic Stadium where the first modern Olympic Games were held in 1896.
9. Dromeas
The work Dromeas by Kostas Varotsos was constructed in 1988. The initial version includes fragments of glass that interact with the natural and artificial light, but also water, a version that was supported for a while. Being the first public work of modern art in Athens it sparked a series of discussions and disagreements.
10. Mount Lycabettus
Then moving into the historical center of the city we will drive up the highest hill of Athens, Lycabettus Hill, where you’ll have the best panoramic view of the city, from the hill of Acropolis to the Aegean Sea.
11. The Academy of Athens
The Academy Building constitutes one of three parts in an “architectural trilogy”. It was founded with the Constitutional Decree of March 18th, 1926, as an Academy of Sciences, Humanities and Fine Arts.
12. The Academy of Athens
The National and Kapodistrian University of Athens is the largest state institution of higher learning in Greece, and among the largest universities in Europe. The splendid Athens University was designed by the Danish architect Christian Hansen and completed in 1864.
13. National Library of Greece
The National Library of Greece was built at the end of the 19th century, as the last of the Architectural Trilogy of Athens, a group of three neoclassical buildings which also includes the Academy and the University. The building was designed by Theophil Hansen,
14. Hellenic Parliament
The Hellenic Parliament, in Greek known as Voulí ton Ellínon is the parliament of Greece, located in the Old Royal Palace, overlooking Syntagma Square in Athens. The Parliament is the supreme democratic institution that represents the citizens through an elected body of Members of Parliament
15. Tomb of the Unknown Soldier
We will see the changing of the guard (Euzones) in front of the old palace, which is today Parliament House, above the central square of Athens.
16. Plateia Syntagmatos
Syntagma Square is the central square of Athens. The square is named after the Constitution that Otto, the first King of Greece, was obliged to grant after a popular and military uprising on 3 September 1843.
17. Acropolis Museum
As you enter the museum grounds, look through the plexiglass floor to see the ruins of an ancient Athenian neighborhood, which were artfully incorporated into the museum design after being uncovered during excavations.This dazzling modernist museum at the foot of the Acropolis’ southern slope showcases its surviving treasures still in Greek possession. While the collection covers the Archaic and Roman periods, the emphasis is on the Acropolis of the 5th century BCE, considered the apotheosis of Greece’s artistic achievement.
18. Ancient Agora of Athens
Instead of the Acropolis Museum we can visit the Ancient Greek Agora which is considered the birthplace of democracy, philosophy and free speech.
19. Monastiraki
Historically old neighborhood of Athens.

Antony was an excellent tour guide - extraordinarily knowledgeable, very passionate about the historical significance of the sites, was very accommodating to our needs (and all of my questions!), remained communicative/clear throughout, and made a great recommendation for lunch after the tour. I would highly recommend Antony to anyone interested in optimizing their time/experience in Athens.

The private half day tour of Athens was suberb! The car is air conditioned and our driver, Tas, was fabulous! He was very helpful, informative and knowledgeable of the culture. I have bad knees so going on the private tour was a must for me. Tas got us close to all the sights to avoid me walking a lot. If you are in Greece use Olive Sea tours and definitely ask for Tas. He’s the best!

We had a six hour private tour with Tas. He was excellent - very thorough and knowledgeable. Tas is very personable, kind, respectful and fun! The tour was very enjoyable, in a large part due to Tas as our tour guide.

Jonathan was an outstanding guide and safe driver. Just enough historical narrative without overlooking key events or rambling on about trivia. Itinerary was excellent: arrived at Acropolis ahead of tour buses, followed by Agora, Temple of Zeus, a city view, changing of the guard at Prime Minister's office (less crowded!) and a filling Greek lunch. Tickets to these venues included in price. We opted for the Acropolis Museum as our finale (ticket not included but available on line and worth every penny), alternative was Athens Museum or Plaka. Hotel pick-up and drop-off was right on time; total time 7+ hours.

We had an incredible tour guide, Demetrio! He made the tour great for us. We saw everything we wanted to see in Athens. We had time to explore. We had a great lunch at a local restaurant. We learned all about the history and architecture. I would highly recommend this tour guide.

Babbis was amazing from the minute he picked us up to the minute he dropped us off. We did an 8 hour private tour and he explained everything with such enthusiasm and intelligence. He brought us to the changing of the guards as an extra wonderful experience. He was always very friendly and cared about our well being. I can’t say enough great things about our tour and guide !

Tour was fantastic for our group of 8. "Mano the Greek" was the perfect guide for humor, information, and timely response. Highly recommend Mano. Very clean and well air-conditioned van. Saw all the "must see" Athens ruins sites with a couple of other photo stops. Had a very nice lunch at a cafe. Convenient pick up and timely drop off. Can't ask for much more.
