Unhealthy Food Tour is a harmonious blend of old and new, food and beverages, history, and architecture. It starts with a snack: “The taste of communism” – Romanian Pretzel and Sana Yoghurt.
After 15 minutes ride on a tram we arrive at Obor Market – one of Romania’s biggest and oldest traditional markets, which has been around for more than 300 years. Here you can find anything from cheese and meat products, spices, and handcrafted wooden bowls sold at market stalls and small shops spread over some 26,000 square meters. A well-known terrace selling “mititei” and cool beer is our next great spot for an unhealthy stop. After this authentic experience, we’ll hop in a trolleybus this time and head to another area filled with history – between University Square and Cismigiu Park.
Our tour will end in a fine and traditional restaurant (Caru cu bere mostly) where we’ll have sweet Wallachian doughnuts called Papanasi, served hot, filled with jam and delicious sour cream on top.

We had a great time exploring the city and food market with our guide Horia, learning about Bucharest (and Romania) past and present. The man is a wealth of knowledge! Come hungry and forget about your diet because the food is plentiful and tasty. Highly recommended.

I wish we'd have done the tour earlier in our stay since we had tried some of the foods already. However, it was still a great tour. But a word to the wise. At the end of the tour, if you are a couple, SPLIT the order of papanashi. There are two and I don't think anybody could eat two of those things.

Stefania was a very knowledgeable tour guide. She gave a great history of the city as we toured around the market area and ate some great foods (unhealthy for sure). We loved the Meech and the wild fried donut desert!
