Although it is a very long day, it’s worth it. You get out of the city to see incredibly stunning scenery in a comfortable coach. There is applicable commentary along the way. When there is no commentary, there is beautiful Scottish music to enjoy. The stops don’t disappoint. We chose not to take the boat trip at Loch Ness but witnessed small boats pass through the lochs. Very cool. Bryan our driver was funny and very knowledgeable about Scotland history and film locations along the way. We highly recommend.

The whole route was quite scenic. We had a lovely time.
This tour is perfect for families with elderly and young kids as there isn’t much walking involved.

Our bus driver come guide 'Brian' gave us enough information about the places and in a fun way! He kept us entertained all through.

After planning our vacation months in advance, and going on others’ suggestions to take this tour, we found out one day ahead of time that our tour was cancelled for lack of numbers. Super frustrating. The tour operator’s “pick one of our other tours” option rang hollow after looking forward for months to see Loch Ness and the Scottish Highlands. I don’t think these factors are ever taken into account when a tour operator decides that it is not economically viable to send out a tour.

Booking a day trip to Scottish Highlands with Gray Line Scotland proved to be a great idea. This made for a long but exciting day. I would have preferred longer stops at certain places but this particular tour is more like an overview. Longest stop is at Fort Augustus / Loch Ness for a couple of hours. This is the star attraction on the trip and cruise on the Loch was enjoyable. These is nothing much to do in Fort Augustus except the cruise. Driving across various lochs was fun and the scenery was spectacular. The highlight for me was the stop at the Victorian village of Pitlochry on the way back. Charming place with a rich history dating back to the times of Queen Victoria. It would be ideal if the route could be changed so that one gets to have lunch at one of the many nice cafés / restaurants in Pitlochry instead of Fort Augustus which was average. Cruise on Loch Ness is what the visit to Fort Augustus should be restricted to. A special mention to our bus driver Ian who was the life of this tour. He made things interesting with his story telling and sense of humour. The tour wouldn’t have been half as interesting without Ian. His recommendation of whiskey ice cream was fabulous!!
