WHAT TO EXPECT

1. Avenue of Poseidon (Poseidornos)
On your way towards the Temple of Poseidon, you will have the potentiality to absorb the southern suburbs of Athens, such as Old Faliron, Alimos and Glyfada. It is an undeniable fact that these areas are considered to be the most up-scaled ones of Attica. Moreover, the traveler is given the opportunity to observe coastline of Attica full of private and public marines, shops and cafes.
2. Limni Vouliagmenis
A short stop for pictures will be made at Vouliagmeni Lake. The lagoon formed about 2,000 years ago. It was once a large cavern that collapsed following an earthquake. The outline of the collapsed cavern roof can be clearly discerned from a distance. The lake has quite unique environmental conditions: it is supplied with warm seawater (28-35ºCelsius) via an underground channel spreading through a network of flooded caves, so its temperature never drops below 18 °C (usually ranges around 21-24 °C), whereas a freshwater spring reduces its salinity to brackish levels (14.5-18 psu). Because of its constant warm water temperature and its rich content in hydrogen sulphide, the lake functions as a spa since the end of the 19th century.
3. Varkiza
Varkiza is a picturesque sea-side village in the middle of the way to Cape Sounion. The area is very popular to Athenians for short excursions due to its beaches, shops and clubs.
4. Temple of Poseidon
The Temple of Poseidon is built on top of the hill, exactly at the meeting point of the Saronic Sea with the Aegean Sea. The temple was dedicated to God Poseidon, the lord of the Sea and it was there where all the sailors offered a last sacrifice to appease God Poseidon before leaving the safety of the Saronic Golf. According to Greek mythology, the Cape Sounion was the point from which Greek King Aegeus flung himself off the cliff to his death, upon the mistaken belief that his son had died. This ancient tragic tale involves a theme that is still used in modern story-telling today.
5. Lagonisi
On the way back to Athens, the visitor will enjoy the Greek traditional cuisine at a local tavern with a view to the sea.

A relaxing and beautiful drive along to coast to a few surprise stops and then the Temple of Poseidon. We never got to dinner because I was feeling unwell, but our wonderful driver Tragadis Theofilos, Theo, stopped for the most amazing ice cream on the way back. Theo was a pleasant host and driver, taught us about the history of area and described the beautify of the country beyond Athens...it made us want to come back and explore more of Greece. A wonderful trip. Thank you Theo!

It was perfect, our driver, Jimmy, came on time, friendly and very professional, the car was impeccable, and the site of Poseidon was magical. Finally, the dinner by the sea in a tavern was also delicious and the service perfect. Thank you Jim for this great adventure

Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful!!! Panos was timely, courteous, professional and knowledgeable. The tour was beautiful - we stopped and so many lovely spots for photos...and the sunset was like no other! On the way back, Panos brought us to a fantastic local fresh seafood restaurant...authentic and delicious!!! What a great way to start off our Greece adventure!!!

We took the Sounion Sunset Private Tour with our family of 4. An awesome experience. A beautiful, well maintained, new van with driver and guide, Costas and Nancy, arrived at our hotel on time. We departed on the planned itinerary and had a wonderful time. Nancy provided the right level of information as we progressed. The dinner stop was at a beautiful location and a very fresh authentic Greek seafood menu. The Temple of Poseidon at Sounion is a breathtaking sunset location. Well worth the trip.

Our tour with Jimmy was just the break we needed from the crowds in Athens. It was a beautiful drive down the coast and a lovely sunset was the reward. Jimmy also arranged a fabulous fresh seafood dinner stop on the way back. Best fish (Grilled Dorado) we have had! Wish I could remember the name of the restaurant…

Frank is the best! Our 5 hour tour was superb! The 6 of us thoroughly enjoyed the beautiful luxury van he provided. The commentary along the way - wow! The Temple of Zeus was a sight to behold on top of the mountain right on the edge of the sea. And he took us to a lovely local restaurant on the way back to Athens for dinner.
Frank is very professional and on time. He is the best and I am a travel agent!
Don't hesitate to use his company for tours and all transfers needed!
