The city of Sacramento is the capital city of California. Situated at the meeting point of Sacramento and the American River's, at the northern part of the Central Valley, the city displays unity amongst diversity. It is comprised of an estimated population of around 475,000. The Sacramento International Airport is located about 16 kilometres from downtown Sacramento. It is the home of prestigious California State University. Light rail system of Sacramento is one of the most popular means of transport.
The city was an important place of action during the California Gold Rush. Sutter's Fort State Historic Park is a great place to learn about the history of Sacramento and its surrounding areas. The Eagle Theatre, was the very first permanent theatre in the State of California, and is notoriously famous for being a haunted house. The California State Railroad Museum preserves the locomotive history of old west. The exhibits at the museum provide a great overview of the relationship between trains and California's rich history.
The Crocker Art Museum is amongst some of the oldest art institutions in the USA, and is now a leading art house of the country. It has a wide variety of preserved ceramic artefacts. The Memorial Auditorium and The Community Center Theatre, are two of Sacramento's renowned theatre halls. The Community Center Theater hosts programs by the Sacramento Philharmonic Orchestra and Sacramento Ballet respectively.
The Memorial Auditorium also hosted Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger's inauguration in 2006. During the summer, The Sacramento Shakespeare Festival performs open air plays at William Land Park. Some other Sacramento attractions that are worth the look include the Old Sacramento State Historic Park, the California State Capitol building, the Sacramento Zoo, the California Automobile Museum, Folsom Lake, Raging Waters Sacramento, the Tower Bridge, The Pony Express Terminal, McClellan Air Force Base, the Sacramento Historic City Cemetery and the California State Military Museum.
