Kentucky, known as the Bluegrass State, is a part of the East south-central area of the United States. Kentucky is one of the four states that are commonwealths. Kentucky has a population of 4.3 million people with a total area of 104,659 square kilometres. Kentuckys capital is Frankfort and its largest city being Louisville.
The easternmost portions of Kentucky border the Appalachian Mountains, which slowly diminish into picturesque, hilly countryside as one goes westward. The southern parts of the state lie on the Mississippi plateau and sport splendorous lakes, which are fed by the many rivers that the state also offers. The great Mississippi River forms the most westward border of the state, while the Ohio River runs along the northern edge of the state.
For another natural attraction, check out Mammoth Cave National Park and the Louisville Zoological Park, and the Cumberland Falls State Resort Park. Legendary for its horse races, Mississippi is home to Churchill Downs, the Kentucky Horse Park, as well as Keeneland. Relax, enjoy a glass of sweet tea and do not forget your wide-brimmed hats and colourful suits.
This is Kentucky Derby country after all.
