Cedar Hill is a city situated in Dallas and Ellis counties in the state of Texas, in the United States. It is located approximately 26 kilometres to the southwest of downtown Dallas and is placed along the eastern shore of Joe Pool Lake and Cedar Hill State Park. The population of the city is almost 47,000.
The nearest airport is Dallas Love Field Airport, 39 kilometres from central Cedar Hill. The most predominant agricultural product grown in the region is wheat. The city is also known as the hill country of Dallas. Settlement of the area began during the later stages of the 1880's.
Cedar Hill State Park offers a lake which is popular for swimming and fishing, and there is also a myriad of hiking and mountain biking trails. It is truly a great place to escape the crowd of the city. If so inclined, some of the varieties of fish that can be caught in the lake include crappie, largemouth black bass, and catfish.
The lake is also a popular location for boating, bird watching, or enjoying a weekend barbeque over a few quiet beers. Painted Bunting birds are famous at the park, and during the months of May and August they can be found in abundance. There is also no shortage of camping spots throughout the park, like the Antelope Flat Campground and Cedar Springs Campground.
Joe Pool Lake has taken more than 25 years of planning and over 10 years of construction work. Its establishment was a joint effort between the Joe Pool Lake Planning Council, the US Army Corps of Engineers, the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department and the Trinity River Authority. The lake is truly treasured by the locals, and truly appreciated by tourists since its inauguration in 1989.
Cedar Hill isn't just all outdoor national parks. Other attractions worth a visit include Ellen's Amusement Park and the Cinemark Theater.
