All packages that involve flight or air travel are protected by the Civil Aviation Authority, which requires all package sellers to possess an ATOL (Air Travel Organiser's License). Land-based holidays are covered by ABTA (The Association of British Travel Agents). This includes coach and rail trips, cruises, and other forms of non-flight transport.
Protection provided by ABTA ensures refunds should the provider suffer a financially-forced closure or ceasing of operations, and allows legal support if unexpected issues with the holiday occur.
