Being the capital city of the Northern Territory, Australia, and Darwin is located to the far north of the state. Located on the coastline of the Timor Sea, Darwin is the largest city in Australia's least populated state. The population of Darwin is approximately 136,245. It is also the ancestral home of the Larrakia people. It's a great place to head out in your rented motorhome and see the wonderful sights the Northern Territory has to offer.
Darwin was originally established as a pioneer outpost with a small harbour port. The climate in Darwin is tropical, and is warm to hot throughout the entire year, with both a wet and a dry season. Being in a tropical climate, cyclones are common place throughout Australia's Top End. Darwin certainly has been through it's fair share of disasters as well.
The city has actually been rebuilt twice, once during World War I following a continuation of Japanese air raids, and then in 1974 following the mass destruction of cyclone Tracy.
