Western Australia , or WA as it is referred to by the locals, is a state within Australia. It consumes the entire western third of Australia. Surrounded by the Great Australian Bight and Southern Ocean to the south, the Indian Ocean to the north and west, the Northern Territory to the north-east and South Australia to the south-east.
Western Australia is Australias largest state with an overall land area of over 2.5 million square kilometres, and is actually the second-largest country subdivision in the world. The vast majority of Western Australia however is very sparsely populated. This is due to the fact that there are five deserts within the state of Western Australia being, the Great Victoria Desert, the Great Sandy Desert, the Tanami Desert, the Gibson Desert and the Little Sandy Desert.
The population of Western Australia is about 2.5 million people, which is around 11% of Australias overall population. Oddly enough 92% of the Western Australias population lives in the south-west corner of the state. The capital city of Western Australia is Perth.
Western Australia is home to some of Australias finest wine regions such as Margaret River, The Great Southern and Swan Valley.
