Located only 2 kilometres from the city of Reykjavik, the Reykjavik International Airport or RKV as per its IATA reference, is easily accessible, and also the main airport for the city. As the airport is governed by pretty short runways, it is predominately used for domestic flights which use smaller aircraft, charter companies and private aircraft.
The majority of flights offered from the airport are to internal Iceland destinations, the Faroe Island or Greenland. However, Reykjavik International Airport is used if inclement weather is being experienced at the Keflavik International Airport. The airport is the hub for both Air Iceland and Eagle Air. Even though the airport has three runways, only two of them used all year round, and the other is used solely in winter.
