Being the proud capital of Sweden, Stockholm is the most populated city in all of the country with nearly 2.2 million residents. The area of Stockholm was settled as far back as the 6th millennium BC. It was however established as a city by a gentleman of the name Birger Jarl in 1252.
Stockholm is pretty much the hub for everything in Sweden, including political, economic, cultural and media related. More companies have their head offices established in Stockholm than anywhere else in the country. The city is also home to one of Europe's finest Universities, the Karolinska Institute.
Stockholm also is responsible for hosting the Nobel Prize ceremony and banquet every year. The city's other claims to fame include its prized Vasa Museum, which is the most highly visited non art museum in all of Scandinavia, and it was also the host in 1912 for the Summer Olympics.
Drottningholm Palace which is located on the outskirts of the city, is the official residence for the Royal Family.
