Being the largest city in Switzerland, Zurich is also the capital of the canton of Zurich. Located in the central north of Switzerland, it is settles right at the north western tip of Lake Zurich. There are around 1.83 million people in the Zurich metropolitan area.
The city of Zurich is also a major transportation hub for vehicles, trains and planes alike. Zurich Railways Station and Zurich Airport are the two busiest transport centres in the country.
The city has been inhabited for the past 2000 years, at first by the early Romans who discovered the city in 15 BC, and referred to it as Turicum. The city is also a well established and respected leader globally begging home to some of the world's largest financial institutions. It is also home to some of the country's largest research and development organisations, and coupled with its low taxation rates, it has a certain attraction to many companies which in turn set up their corporate headquarter's there.
Zurich has long been ranked as one of the best cities in the world to live in, with the best quality of life, and also the wealthiest city in all of Europe.
The city gives way to an absolute smorgasbord of tourist attractions. A vacation to Zurich will certainly not leave you short of things to do.
